"Golf is a game that can't be won, only played."
From the movie "Legend of Bagger Vance"
"Success in this game depends less on strength of body than strength of mind and character"
- Arnold Palmer
"Get the inside right, and the outside falls effortlessly into place "
Spirit of Golf's first of 10 Key concepts
"I never prayed that I would make a putt, I prayed that I would react well if I missed."
- Chi Chi Rodriguez
"All seasoned players know or at least felt that when you are playing your best you are much the same as in a state of meditation. You're free of tension and chatter. You are concentrating on one thing. It is the ideal condition for good golf."
- Harvey Penick
It's the goal of any golf instructor to help each individual learn to play the game of golf and learn to play it to the level each wishes to attain and most importantly, to have fun with themselves and others who share this game of golf.
My goal is no different, however the way in which we will get there is a little different. Obviously learning the basic mechanics of the swing is important. After all, the game is played out on a physical stage, but it's not the only way. There is more to each of us than just the physical. There are also our thoughts and emotions which have a direct relationship to our desired physical actions, which is why I believe in what the Sprit of Golf has to offer those that play golf and those who wish to learn the true nature of game. If a player is not aware of the power of his mind and emotions in relation to his or her game, they will trump a good swing every time.
Together, we will build and discover your swing, your authentic swing, a swing that will be yours and yours alone. we will do this through not only learning sound swing mechanics but also by building and discovering the strenghths and abilities inside you that will work in concert with and make more effective, reliable and consistent, your swing.
The ultimate goal of the game of golf is to put the ball in the hole, which is why I believe, as the great teacher Harvey Penick believed, you learn the game from the green to the tee. Most shots are lost by the majority of players from 60 yards into and including putts on the green. This is why I firmly believe in starting all my students on the green and working back to the tee.
"If you see golf as just a game and not a journey, you are missing out on its magic."
